This is really useful to read for a newbie like myself! About linking from Insta - you can do that with Instagram stories. I’ve only just started posting here but my early observations are that most of the ‘traffic’ comes from in house-the Substack App, notes etc
I left X/Twitter as soon as Musk took over. I was worried I’d lose work as most people contacted me initially through the platform. Rather than a drop, I had a significant increase. No idea why but leaving certainly wasn’t an issue.
Twatter is usually good for quotes only— a handful of people even bother liking anything that requires reading. Let alone opening the link. Dumb and dumber world.
To be honest, it's quite hard to read the bumps in the gradually ascending line. There was once a period of a couple of weeks where I was getting many new subscriptions per day. It stopped as suddenly as it started. I assumed that was some algorithm within Substack that had started to recommend me more frequently. There was a small bump around the time of The Author article, but these are often followed by a small dip as people take a look around and decide what's here is not for them.

Grateful you are here and sharing!🙏👍😊
Brilliant stuff, thank you
That's interesting! I'd wondered how effective those images are, especially with Insta not allowing clicks.
Out of interest, did your article in The Author give you an increase in readers? That's where I found out about your Substack from.
