Dawson just reissued their complete discography, and the members are still around on the scene in various forms - Jer Reid runs the GIOdynamics improvised music night at the Glad Café on the south side and is launching his book of haiku there on the 28th
Thanks for letting me know. On the night, I preferred them to Teenage Fanclub. I couldn't really hear through the sludge to the melodies with them. I love them very much now, and am glad I saw them so early on. I couldn't find Dawson on Spotify, but will look them out elsewhere.
Goodness - I think I was so excited at the discovery of Barrett that I wanted to make contact with other admirers. My friends were more into Dark Side and the later albums. I believed that I would lose something if I didn't grab it fast. That's my best guess. A very pre-internet emotion. I want to share this - where can I share it?
Oh yes, that's true - otherwise today you'd find a Facebook group or similar for Barrett fans. Back then, there fanzines, but you'd have to look through small ads in the music press, or buy a Pink Floyd zine and hope someone mentioned Barrett in it somewhere.

I love the urgency of Younger Toby - how desperate he is to know more, and it can't possibly wait! Peel was definitely very courteous.
That is putting it mildly. I find the letter quite rude. But I'm sure Peel received much ruder in every post.
"Reply quickly."
Dare I ask why this information so urgent?
