15:05 FLIGHT BACK TO ENGLAND1
This is the 1,333rd entry in A Writer’s Diary.
There haven’t been many empty days. I haven’t taken many breaks. I’ve wanted to post every morning.
But young-Toby writes nothing in his big blue diary when he returns to England, and so I am going to leave those days quiet.
I thought about reposting some writing advice from last year, or something new. But a gap feels better than a series of anachronisms.
Young-Toby only knows what he knows, though already we know more about him than he does.
I’m thinking about what to do with the Diary next year. And whether to do next year at all.
Your suggestions are welcome.
This year hasn’t been about trying to reach more people, as last year was. This year has been about a whole, detailed, minority interest thing.
Looking at a writer trying to become a writer, day by day, in one case.
Subscriptions have held up, but the graph ceased to rise.
I guessed that would happen.
Thank you for staying with it — for putting up with, as someone put it in an email, ‘warts and all young-Toby’.
I’ll be back on 30 Červenec 1990; that’s July 30th.
I look forward to the diary every day. The idea of watching someone go through their life with all the hindsight of experience keeps my interest, especially as we get to watch Toby become who he becomes.
