The excitement, the adrenalin, the pride, the smug reassurance of seeing my name in TLD! Could this be hubris?
Sorry, Toby , you have not unremembered this lesson segment. But I didn't properly explain it. Hubris is essentially a religious concept - no need to for non-worshippers to fret. Hubris is a mortal daring to act like a god: believing that actions have no consequences (as gods are outside time, by definition).
If all time is eternally present
All time is unredeemable.
What might have been is an abstraction
Remaining a perpetual possibility
Only in a world of speculation.
So if there is no god, no offence is committed by usurping His prerogative.
Those who in our world act like gods fear no consequence - one act of hubris is topped by another, and another. But they do need worshippers to maintain their status, and only the congregation can bring them down.
Whatever works for you, ain't it? I celebrate my small victories here and there. Why not? I don't seem to get the same pleasure, excitement others have about anything. New Year's Eve, getting published, I don't have too much of an emotional reaction. I find other writer's 'unboxing videos' when they get their books published, rather strange. Each to their own. But I try to inject some enjoyment into the doom-laden atmosphere of everyday stress and conflict.
I just finished a first run through edit of a 'completed' draft (complete for now), and decided, while I can't afford to, I'm gonna go out to eat with my wife to celebrate, as I'm happy with what I made, so far. I'll Bob the supermarket for meat, and hawk my wares down the battle for bangers, for to buy me a meal. I'm thinking Thai duck and garlic.
Why not?
Anyway, well done, enjoy it your own way. Or not. And good luck if you decide to write the novel.
We are all enjoying it for you, if that helps?
This! Congratulations!
PS Massive congratulations on Dead Boy Detectives.

Congratulations, Toby. I think, at the very least, a warm glow of satisfaction is allowed.
I ind having time with grandchildren, while exhausting, a real way to connect with fun and play!
