Hello,
the first year of A Writer’s Diary is coming to an end on December 31st.
But the Diary will continue into next year - the Substack Diary, anyway.
It will be recognisably the same thing (cups of tea will be spilled onto the desk, self-doubt will not evaporate), but also it’ll be more responsive, more about writing advice, more about now.
A greater proportion of the Diary will be for paid subscribers, so if you’re not already signed up, please consider joining now.
And if you know someone who might like it:
Alongside the transition from 2022 to 2023, for the next week, NewWriting are going to be publishing seven extra days. So if you’re a completist, you’ll need to read them here:
https://www.newwriting.net/2022/12/a-writers-diary-1/
(Don’t worry, I’ll do a round-up with links when they’re all out.)
And the book version of the first year, beautifully published by Galley Beggar Press, will have its official publication day on January 1st. You can order this direct from Sam and Elly:
https://www.galleybeggar.co.uk/paperback-shop/a-writers-diary
If you become one of Galley Beggar’s Limited Edition Buddies, you’ll get a gorgeous black-covered edition of A Writer’s Diary, and you’ll be signed up for the Substack Diary until forever. (Just let them know when you subscribe.)
I’m going to be around this Friday 30th, around 4pm BST, if you feel like dropping in, or lobbing a question my way. You can do that by pressing this button.
It has felt very strange to see these 365 days of words go from manuscript to email to proof to finished book. In the next few weeks, we’ll see how they are received. There’s already been a really good review by Barney Norris in the Guardian.
But it has been you - you reading this now - who have been the friendly ghost at the desk, reading over my shoulder.
I hope you’ll stay awhile longer.
All best wishes,
Toby
